SUNIL SHAH

iceland

On approach the plane moved in all directions seemingly verging on the edge of a complete loss of control. Touchdown was welcome on what would seem to be a barren landscape, wind blown, isolated and without many signs of human habitation. What human life exists is advanced yet down to earth; honest and traditional values don’t seem to interfere with this, 'other level' that appears to be in place. The earth, light and the elements play a large part in these lives too. Man and nature living in sub arctic flux. Driving beyond the imposing glaciers, through the lava fields, amongst volcanoes and geothermal steam gives you the feeling that you are a much smaller insignificance on a far bigger living and breathing entity. And that was it; Iceland brings you as close as it is possible to the realisation that this planet is alive.
