man made the land
Looking at the landscape around me, I had the realisation that most of space that surrounds us is man made. As much as our notions of ‘landscape’ come from the picturesque, the actual landscape around us serves to meet the demands we place on it through the practicalities of living, however, ultimately, they reflect the ideologies society holds. I don’t think we are even too aware of this evolving landscape, we have become de-sensitised to it through familiarity. Suburban housing estates, retail parks, road networks and cultivated land are common elements that shape the landscape all over the UK and and it is increasingly difficult to distinguish one place from another. It is also very evident that the consumer society is dictating our view.
