the waiting game
A soldier returns home.
The impact of war is witnessed here through images which focus on aspects of human relationships in domestic surroundings. These photographs are charged emotionally and personalised using shared dialogue appropriated from Facebook status updates. The approach for this work is to draw attention away from the theatre of conflict and the usual rhetoric that surrounds service personnel in the armed forces. This work closes in on individual experience characterised by the interrelations between escape, separation, (re)union and belonging. The subject is positioned to provide a leveled relationship to the viewer, neither as victim nor celebrity, in contrast to recent media sensationalism that is often quickly seen and quickly forgotten.
