romford skatepark

Romford skatepark was born in the late 70's part of the first skateboard craze days in the UK when there was a booming increase in concrete parks. Many are no more due to different reasons such as; local councils failing to justify the cost of maintenance, new land developments taking place and cases where parks fell into neglect, becoming derelict. However, a few like Rom still survive to this day. Designed by Skateboarder, Tim Altic and built in 1978 it remains a relic of the 70's skatepark days where designers were let loose to create concrete dreamworlds for urethane wheels.

In its time Rom has been home to many contests, jams, riders and skaters who have used this place to its full advantage and possibilities as is evident on the yellow walls of the shop were the posters and stickers display this heritage. So many names are attached to its history, I think anyone who knows this place has at least one Rom story or legend to speak of...Currently, the place is run by friendly people who will sell you a cup of tea or a pot noodle accompanied with some East End banter. Here are some images of rom taken on a sunny cloudy august day.
